GRAPES: 100% ROTER MUSKATELLER
SKIN CONTACT: 10 DAYS
REGION: WEINVIERTEL, AUSTRIA
Vinification method: The Schödl winery is run by three siblings, Mathias, Viktoria, and Leonhard, who have traveled extensively from New Zealand to South Africa and New York to California. Together, they have converted their family winery in Weinviertel to organic production. Their vineyards are in and around Loidesthal, Austria. Mathias focuses on the biodiversity in the vineyards; wild herbs, grasses and chamomile grow between the vines to provide living space for beneficial insects such as butterflies, ladybugs, and earthworms. It is fertilized only with natural compost.
The Roter Muskateller grapes are sourced entirely from the Schödl vineyard, In den Kreuthern, on chalky loess soils. The grapes spend 10 days macerating, and are aged in the Schödls’ father’s special 50th birthday füder. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, no added S02.
