GRAPES: 100% SILVANER
SKIN CONTACT: 3 WEEKS
REGION: RHEINHESSEN, GERMANY
Vinification method: Daisy Merrick, formerly of Chambers Street Wines in NYC, founded Soma Vines as an import/distribution company in Berlin in 2018. In 2020, she partnered with Antoine Lucchesi to create a negociant project. They have plans to own their own vineyards in the near future. Daisy and Antoine are very grateful to their friends at Weingut Mann, who let Soma Vines use their cellar in Rheinhessen. As of 2022, they are only purchasing grapes to vinify from within Germany.
The Silvaner grapes were picked in October 2022 from winemaker Andi Mann’s vineyard in Eckelsheim. The vines are 25 years old and planted on sandstone soils. The grapes are transferred into a tank and undergo full carbonic maceration for 3 weeks. After pressing, the juice is moved into old 500L barrels to finish fermentation. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, with no added S02.
Tasting notes: full-bodied, passionfruit, green apple, ripe peach, mineral, zesty
Pairing: spicy tofu, chicken sausage with polenta
