Producer information: The Klanjscek winery is located on the hills of Collio (Gorizia), near the same fabled region that legends such as Gravner and Radikon hail. They've farmed about 4 hectares of vines since 2017, certified organic in 2019. The family has been involved in farming for a long time - back in the 70s the family grandmother Hedvika owned a seasonal tavern where she sold vegetable dishes grown in a local agriturismo. The large family still embraces the moral and material legacy of their grandparents, evolving their family agriculture business into a respected winery. The outline of a farmer on all their labels pays tribute to their grandfather Mirko, who lived in the vineyard in his "slamnik" hat for much of his life.
Vinification method: This wine comes from Ribolla Gialla grapes that are hand-harvested from Ponka (a marl and sandstone blend) soils. 40% of the grapes in this wine have botrytis, a "noble rot" that concentrates the sugars in the grapes and adds a rich depth of flavor to the wine. They macerate for 10 days on the skins, with 4 punchdowns daily. After spontaneous fermentation with no temperature control, the wine ages for 1 year in massive old oak barrels. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, minimal added S02.
